Theses & Dissertations
The Texas A&M University Libraries has extensive collections of theses and dissertations in both print and electronic format. All Texas A&M dissertations are available in electronic format in the ProQuest Digital Dissertations database. This service also provides full-text dissertations from a number of participating universities. These are free to faculty, staff, and students affiliated with Texas A&M. All theses, professional papers and records of study produced at Texas A&M since 1922 are available on the 5th floor of the Library Annex. Theses and dissertations produced before 1922 are held in the university archives in Cushing Library, the rare book and manuscript collection of the university. Both collections are cataloged in LibCat.
In 2002, the Office of Graduate Studies began accepting electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) from graduate students. These "born digital" ETDs are available to the general public for free at the TAMU ETD-db website. This collection is a subset of the larger Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, a cooperative project of universities all over the world.
Generally, the TAMU Libraries does not collect dissertations and theses from other universities. Some exceptions to this are described below. Selected theses and dissertations relating to education can be found in ERIC. These items are not listed in LibCat. The NTIS microfiche collection contains many dissertations and theses on scientific or technical subjects. These items are also not in LibCat. Ask at the Evans Reference Desk for assistance in checking this collection. The Library subscribes to Microform Publications in Health, Physical Education and Recreation, which reproduces dissertations and theses relating to health, physical education, or recreation completed at American colleges and universities. The TAMU Libraries also holds some miscellaneous theses and dissertations, in paper copy or microform, either as a copy of the original work or as a revised copy of the work published as a book. These items are listed in LibCat.
