User Engagement Librarian

Position Announcement

Texas A&M University Libraries seeks a creative and dynamic professional to join the Texas A&M University Libraries as User Engagement Librarian. This is a tenure-track academic appointment carrying full faculty status and responsibilities including research, publication and service to meet both the Libraries’ and the University’s requirements for tenure and promotion.                                                          

Reporting to the Dean through the Director of Public Services, Evans Library, the User Engagement Librarian will have an integral role in enhancing the user experience of both in-person and virtual public services. The librarian will be responsible for conducting user experience studies in order to identify needs and make recommendations to the Director for improvements to existing services, as well as suggestions for potential new services and technologies. Additionally, the librarian will be the technical administrator of the Libraries’ existing online suite of reference services and tools including, but are not limited to, chat and email reference referrals, FAQs, online room reservations, and interactive web-based forms used in Public Services.

The person in this position must be a self-starter, detail-oriented and enjoy solving problems in a collaborative, collegial environment with continually evolving technologies. The Librarian is expected to maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and techniques in user experience and service design. The position serves on committees for the Libraries, the university, and other organizations, contributes to the profession, and engages in scholarship.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent
  • Knowledge of user experience research methodologies
  • Knowledge of issues and trends related to reference services in libraries 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and culturally diverse environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with conducting user experience research using methodologies such as surveys, usability testing, focus groups, customer journey maps, or observations.
  • Experience with virtual services software such as: library guides, event calendars, tutorials, virtual tours, equipment booking, service point scheduling, e-reserves & document management, streaming media, and digital signage
  • Experience working with vendors including reviewing and processing licenses 
  • Knowledge of providing services to all individuals regardless of ability or disability including ADA and Section 508.
  • Knowledge of information technologies relevant to web design such as HTML, CSS, or APIs.
  • Prior experience working in public or customer service

Currently the staffing includes 268 individuals which includes 90 librarians holding faculty status.

Salary/Benefits/Rank: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $50,500. Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA; paid holidays and vacation; no state or local income tax. Funding is available for professional travel and development activities.
