General Description:

This position serves under the MSL Director and as the Director’s primary delegate.  As a key member of the MSL leadership team, the Deputy Director shares responsibility with the Director for overall program development and evaluation, library-wide planning, budgeting and staffing decisions.  The Deputy Director manages the day-to-day operations of the library and in the absence of the MSL Director, assumes responsibility for all library programs and services.      

General Duties:

  • Works closely with the Director and leadership team to create the library’s vision and priorities, and to develop appropriate strategies for achieving them
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of library operations
  • Directly supervises all faculty and staff involved in MSL core services delivery
  • Works closely with the Director and leadership team to enable successful library outcomes through development, allocation and use of library staff, funds, collections, technology and facilities
  • Works closely with the Director and leadership team to ensure optimal library performance and quality of services
  • Advocates for and represents the Library, and communicates its vision to constituent groups, colleagues, partners, and organizations within and external to the University, on behalf of or at the request of the Director
  • Creates, sponsors and serves on library teams to help meet goals and facilitate continuous improvement
  • Works closely with the Director on the development of policies and practices; implements and evaluates policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the coordination of policies, service standards, and procedures with other campus libraries to ensure consistent delivery of service and shared knowledge, and to foster cooperation and collaboration among all library staff
  • Coordinates all major facilities renovation projects
  • Promotes the professional development of library faculty and staff
  • Models library shared values
  • Engages in scholarly activities and professional service commensurate with expectations for tenure-track/tenured TAMU Libraries faculty
