AGSM 475 - Applied Information Technologies for Agricultural Systems

Course Description

Definition and documentation of the value of information in agriculturally-based technology
companies.
Methods for mapping information flow within the company and across companies.
Articulation value of information within a value chain for a food product by simulation. 
Projects using project management software and web-based interactions.

Example of Project Assignment:

Develop a database, based on Microsoft Access 2007, for a real U.S. company invoked in the agricultural and/ or food supply chain. The purpose of the database is to keep track of, and provide a system for data interpretation and decision making, supply chain data for the company you select.
Each student in the class must select a different company.
(1) Select one major product the company produces and draw the supply chain in its fundamental form, that is, include only the main components. Indicate the flow of material, information, and money. Do research into the company's main product(s), suppliers, distribution system, etc.
(2) Conduct research via the internet on
a. levels of material and money flow between the links
b. what companies are involved
Keep a notebook of the information you find on your company so that you can document your source material

This is a power point presentation explaining the need for library resources and databases to help collect articles and other material for writing term papers and other assignments.
