Articles and Databases

To find journal articles on a specific topic, you can search for an article in a journal using an index and/or database in electronic format. An electronic index or database organizes and groups articles from journals using subject terms. Some electronic databases provide full-text access to articles; others provide only citation and/or abstract information. Indexes do not contain full text, only citations.

ERIC (EBSCO)

Click on the Thesaurus button to browse for subject terms (or descriptors) used for your topic. Return to the Keyword Search Screen. Enter your terms in the search term box, and select SU Descriptors from the drop-down menu in the search fields box.

Scroll down to select limiters, if desired (full text, journal articles, educational level).

Click Search.

If the article is not available in full text format in this database, click on the "Find Text at TAMU" button to check for full text availability in our other databases. You can also use a link in the "Find Text at TAMU"menu to determine if the journal is a scholarly publication and if it is peer-reviewed.

If the article is not full text in any of our databases, click on the link to Get it for me to request the article from Interlibrary Loan.

You can access both of these databases from our library homepage in the same manner that you accessed ERIC. Both have a thesaurus or a subject terms list to help you select the appropriate subject terms. Both also allow you to limit your search to peer-reviewed or scholarly articles.
