To find journal articles on a specific topic, you can search for an article in a journal using an index and/or database in electronic format.

Eric (Ebsco)

ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences at the U.S. Department of Education. The ERIC database, the world’s largest source of education information, provides access to more than 1 million abstracts of education-related documents and journal articles.

Click on the Thesaurus button to browse for subject terms (or descriptors) used for your topic.
Return to the Keyword Search Screen.
Enter your terms in the search term box, and select SU Descriptors from the drop-down menu in the search fields box.
Scroll down to select limiters, if desired (full text, journal articles, educational level).
Click Search.

If the article is not available full text in this database, click on the Find Text @ TAMU button to check for full text availability in our other databases. You can also use a link in the Find Text @ TAMU menu to determine if the journal is a scholarly publication (peer-reviewed).

If the article is not full text in any of our databases, click on the link to Get it for me to request that a PDF copy of the article be ordered for you from another library.

Caution: ERIC has a limiter that will limit your searches to articles from peer-reviewed journals, but, for now, it only goes back to 2003. If you want articles from journals before 2003, do not use the limiter.

Education Full Text

Education Full Text provides access to articles from English-language periodicals and yearbooks. Articles are indexed (citation information only, coverage begins in 1982), abstracted (citation information plus a short summary of the article, coverage begins in 1994), or full text online (coverage begins in 1996).

Professional Development Collection

The Professional Development Collection is a specialized collection of over 550 full text journals designed for the professional educator. It includes over 350 peer-reviewed titles. Full text coverage of some journals dates back to 1965.

Education Full Text has a thesaurus and Professional Development Collection has a subject terms list to help you select the appropriate subject terms. You can also limit your searches to articles from peer-reviewed journals.
