Biography
Norma Field Funkhouser was born in Trenton, NJ. She holds a B.A. in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware and a masters degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Texas, Austin. She joined the faculty of Texas A&M University in 1988. She is currently an Associate Professor at the TAMU Medical Sciences Library (MSL), with a joint appointment in the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences (VIBS). At the MSL, her primary responsibilities include veterinary medical reference and veterinary outreach, while in VIBS, she teaches a section of BIMS 101, and laboratories in VIBS 420.
Norma was awarded the TAMU Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award in Librarianship in 1998. She is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Medical Library Association, and Chair of the Associations Section Council from 2002-2005. Previous professional experiences include several years as an immunology / allergy research associate, as well as over 6 years as science teacher at St. Michaels Academy in Bryan.
Research Interests
Information management education; organization, retrieval and database searching methods; new technology for information management; computer-aided instruction; web-based instruction/tutorials.
