- Liaison and resource faculty member for those in the Humanities and Social Sciences departments with a particular emphasis on African/African American Diaspora, Islamic/Middle Eastern Studies, and Race and Ethnic Studies.

- Developed a plan and supervised the work on a large backlog of unprocessed collections.
- Participated on the Millennium Project Oversight Committee-Library Faculty Association, which was charged with finding barriers to diversity on campus, including looking at issues of climate, gender, race, and fairness on campus.
- Performed cross functional activities that included working with the History department on instruction and developing an annotated bibliography of resources on African Americans and the African Diaspora.
- Taught two archival classes concerning appraisal and description for the Spring 2002 Archives course in the Graduate School of Information Resources and Librarianship-University of Arizona.
- Received Encoded Archival Description (EAD) training for the encoding of finding aids as a part of the state of Arizona’s tri-university project, and encoded seven finding aids of varying lengths.
Amistad Research Center, Tulane University, Archivist, November 1988 - August 2001
- Digital Humanities Project Archivist/Administrator- An Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) funded two-year digital and processing grant received in 2000. Duties included grant reporting and management of the $186,000 budget. Supervised the selection and scanning of over 5,000 images and textual documents for inclusion into the Louisiana State University, our collaborative partner’s, online database. Supervised the processing of a large collection of photographs used in the project.
- Acquisition Archivist/Reference Archivist/Instructor- Accessioned all incoming collections, prepared forms, entered information into Paradox database, and corresponded with donors. Solicited potential donors, arranged shipping, prepared acquisitions reports for inclusion into publications. Developed formal arrangements for manuscript collections and prepared descriptive summaries. Handled the reference desk, which included greeting and assisting researchers, answering telephone and mail inquiries, provided bibliographic instructions on the use of databases and manuscript collections for undergraduate and graduate classes and other groups, and gave tours of the Center’s art gallery. Developed and maintained all correspondence files for the Center; managed the Center's direct mail marketing; edited various in-house publications; supervised undergraduate students; and transcribed oral history recordings.
- Cataloger/Technology information
Specialist-assisted the head of cataloging and technical services in the
automation of the archive, retrospective conversion project of entire archival
holdings, original cataloging of manuscripts and books using US MARC AMC
format, database management using OCLC and NOTIS, authority file maintenance,
weeding, inventory, and maintenance of stacks, complete reduction of fifteen
year backlog. Installed internet
connections for staff and maintained contact with computing services regarding
new program updates. Developed, updated,
and maintained our website.

This article was an essay for a series of articles published by the Louisiana Weekly, one of New Orleans, LA oldest Black newspapers. The Africa Rising Series of articles is a creation of Dr. Clyde Robertson, director of the New Orleans Public Schools Africana Studies and Culture Unit. Dr. Robertson and staff serve as editors and reviewers of each article. This series has featured articles from scholars from all over the United States including Dr. Molefi Asante, Dr. Jarita Holbrook, Maulana Karenga, Dr. Angela Davis, Dr. Nazir Conyers, Runoko Rashidi, Dr. Ney Afulabi, Dr. Jose Bey, and others.

I
submitted the idea and it was accepted, lead the writing and edited the
contributions. This was a featured
article in the ACRL president Helen H. Spaulding’s 2002-2003 Presidential
Theme, “New Realities, New Relationships” for the month of May-one of ten
columns chosen. This article has been
cited at least four times in other publications including in a 2004 presentation
for the National Diversity in Libraries conference, in the 2007 ALA White Paper
on Diversity, and in the Journal of Academic Librarianship, March 2008.

candidate Bethany Rogers. Paper was
published in the conference proceedings and distributed to a worldwide audience. This article is also available via my page on
the TAMU Digital Institutional Repository.
