Off-Campus Access Information

From on campus, patrons have access to the full range of electronic resources offered by the Libraries.  From off campus, the vast majority of the Libraries' electronic holdings are available to currently enrolled students and currently paid/sponsored faculty and staff of Texas A&M University and its affiliated agencies (for example TAES, TEEX, TTI, etc.). Access from off campus requires the use of EZProxy.  This system is accessed automatically by clicking on the link for any e-resource from the Libraries' web site.  You will be prompted for your NetID username and password.

Another convenient way to ensure access to electronic resources is to use your library My Portal account.  It has been set up for you on the upper right side of the top menu above this text.  Login using your NetID username and password.  Once you are in, there's no need to re-enter your credentials for access to the wide range of resources offered by the Libraries for the remainder of the time you have your browser open.

My Portal is being offered by the Libraries to provide a convenient single point of service for our patrons.  We encourage you to login and check back often as we strive to improve our service to you.

E-Resource Access Troubleshooting Guide

Step 1 - Check browser version:

"My Portal" currently supports the following browser versions: Netscape 7.x, Internet Explorer 6.x,  Mozilla Firefox 1.x.

Suggestion:
Update your web browser.

Step 2 - Check browser settings:

Your web browser needs to support cookies and JavaScript.

Suggestion:
Go to

Library > Research Tools & Advice > E-Resources > Browser Recommendations
and follow the instructions to check and/or enable cookies and JavaScript in your browser.

Step 3 - Know your current NetID username and password:

If you have trouble logging into NEO (http://neo.tamu.edu) with your NetID username and password you probably will also have trouble using My Portal.

Suggestion:
If you can't login to "My Portal" or NEO because you have forgotten or are having trouble with your NetID password, visit one of the CIS Open Access Labs or the Circulation Desk at Evans Library to have your account marked for a password reset. Alternately, you can contact Help Desk Central at (979) 845-8300 between 8am and 5pm Monday-Friday and they may be able to help you with this over the phone. If you have not already done so, you can activate your NetID account.

Step 4 - Reset your password in NEO:

You may need to reset your password even though you are able to use your NetID successfully with NEO. Wait about 10 minutes before trying to login to My Portal after you have reset your password in NEO.

Suggestion:
Login to NEO (http://neo.tamu.edu) and click "Reset password" to reset your password.

Step 5 - Check your university affiliation in the campus directory:

Though you can login to NEO, you may still not be able to login to MyPortal due to your university affiliation. Please use the above link to check your university affiliation status. If your universtiy affiliation status is reported as invalid by the above link, please use the Comment Form accessible from the Contact Webmaster link at the bottom of any of our web pages to request assistance.

Step 6 – Check firewall settings

If your machine is behind a firewall, make sure that ports 2048 and 9003 are open. Port 2048 is used by EZproxy, which faciliates off-campus access to E-Resources. Port 9003 is used by SFX (metalib.tamu.edu), a linking product used to lead patrons to E-Resources on various provider websites.

Step 7 – Let us help!

If you have tried the 6 steps above and still can't login to "My Portal", please let us know!  You can use our Comment Form accessible from the Contact Webmaster link at the bottom of any of our web pages to submit a problem to our support staff who will contact you directly.
