Borrowing Library Materials

With one exception, each of the libraries allow users to borrow or check-out materials and take them out of the building for convenience of use. The amount of time a user can keep the book and the number of books that can be checked out at the same time may vary depending on the library user's affiliation status and library being used. Generally, library users that are affiliated with the university can check-out more books for longer periods of time than non-affiliated community or courtesy users. As participants in consortial and reciprocal borrowing programs, the libraries do extend limited circulation privileges to TexShare and OCLC cardholders.

Users wishing to give someone else the authority to check books out for them should use the Library Alternate User Authorization Form.

Some departments with specialized resources, such as maps, wireless laptops, reference, audiovisual, or course reserves materials, will have additional guidelines or restrictions. The Cushing Memorial Library, which houses university archival materials and special or rare materials, does not allow materials to leave the building. Instead, all items must be used in the Reading Room.

Evans Library, Library Annex, West Campus Library (WCL), and Policy Sciences and Economics Library (PSEL) general collections are covered under the same set of Borrower Responsibilities and Borrowing Privileges.

The Medical Sciences Library (MSL) has a separate set of Borrower Responsibilities and Borrowing Privileges.

Use the links below to find printable brochures with more information about borrowing policies and guidelines for Evans/WCL/PSEL.

Other information on using library study rooms, arranging visits for high school groups, and appealing library fines/fees can be found under the About the Libraries>Library Guidelines area of the website. If you have other questions, contact your nearest library circulation desk.
