The University Libraries is proud to announce that Sarah LeMire has been named a 2021 Presidential Impact Fellow. She, along with nineteen recipients make up the fifth class of Fellows and join more than 75 colleagues recognized over the last five years. The award was initiated by President Michael K. Young to recognize rising stars in their respective fields, and those who embody the university commitment to advancing knowledge through transformational learning, discovery, innovation, and impact for Texas and the world.

LeMire is an Associate Professor and oversees First Year Programs for the Libraries. Her work focuses on information literacy instruction and outreach for first-year students, with a particular emphasis on first-generation students and student veterans. She helped establish a study room dedicated to veterans in Evans Library and this past year, she was part of a team that created the Libraries and Veterans National Forum. The forum was created to develop and facilitate a national conversation about library services for members of veteran and military-affiliated communities. She is also a 2021–2022 SPARC Open Education Leadership Fellow.

Presidential Impact Fellows retain their new title for life, so long as they remain a faculty member in good standing, and receive an annual stipend of $25,000 for three years. The goal of this investment is to make their research, scholarship, and other professional contributions more highly recognized nationally and internationally and to increase the likelihood that Presidential Impact Fellows will receive increasingly prestigious professional recognitions.
