The Jack K. Williams Library houses many physical items in our collections that are available to be viewed or checked-out. The items that can be checked out are called “circulating” items such as books, periodicals, equipment, and course reserves. These library materials support the focus on the Blue Economy and the main degree programs on campus such as Marine Biology, Marine Engineering Technology, and Maritime Business Administration as well as other courses offered on campus.
To search our collection, you can visit our online catalog. If you need assistance finding what you need, please come to the front desk and one of our student assistants will help you.
If we don’t have what you need, you can submit an InterLibrary Loan (ILL) request or fill out our Suggest a Purchase form.
Our books including the Galveston Bay Collection and bound periodicals are located in the “stacks” or shelving units by the computer lab area. The books use the Library of Congress classification system which organizes materials based on subject. Therefore, they are organized in alphabetical order of the subject area, then numerical order of the specific topic within that subject area. We have added the subject areas to the labels on the ends of the shelving units to help with browsing and finding the items you are looking for.
Please feel free to browse the stacks and look at any of the items. Make sure to place the books on the carts at the ends of the stacks so we can keep track of what is being used and retain it for further use.
