The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) has appointed Wendi Arant Kaspar from the Texas A&M University Libraries as the College & Research Libraries (C&RL) editor for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2016.

“I’ve have watched C&RL’s evolution with interest, particularly as it provides a leadership model for open access and considers the opportunities that technology and new media bring to scholarly publishing,” Kaspar explains in ACRL’s official announcement. “I am excited at the prospect of being a part of this effort, contributing to the innovative voice of ACRL, and framing quality scholarship and best practices in academic librarianship.”

Before starting her three-year term as editor, Kaspar will serve as editor designate July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016, where she will assume full editorial responsibility and later serve as chair of the C&RL Editorial Board. David H. Carlson, Dean of University Libraries, said “this is no minor appointment. C&RL is widely regarded as one of — if not the — most prestigious and highly-regarded journal in librarianship.”

Kaspar is currently the policy sciences librarian at the Policy Sciences and Economics Library, and is the subject specialist and liaison librarian for the Department of Economics, Interactive Center for Homeland Security, International Affairs (Bush School of Government & Public Affairs), and the Department of Political Science.  She has gained extensive publishing experience as the co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Academic Librarianship (2012-2014) and co-editor-in-chief of Library Leadership & Management (2010-2012), while publishing multiple papers and serving as a member of the Texas A&M University Disciplinary Appeals Panel (2009-present).

“Wendi brings a wealth of editorial and scholarly communication experience to the C&RL editorship” said ACRL President Karen A. Williams in ACRL’s official announcement. “Having previously served as co-editor of two respected LIS journals, she will continue to lead ACRL’s flagship journal into the future, following in the tradition of innovation and experimentation exemplified by outgoing editor Scott Walter and his predecessors. I’m looking forward to watching the ongoing evolution of the journal under Wendi’s leadership.”
