Congratulations to our very own Heather K. Moberly, 2020/2021 winner of the Michael E. DeBakey Library Services Outreach Award, presented by the Friends of the National Library of Medicine - Supporting and Promoting the NLM.

Heather K. Moberly is the 2020/2021 winner of the Michael E. DeBakey Library Services Outreach Award from the Friends of the National Library of Medicine (FNLM).

The Michael E. DeBakey Award was established to recognize contributions to medical education and librarianship. It honors a practicing health sciences librarian who works in the tradition of the advances and medical innovations of DeBakey to provide valuable health information to those in underserved and rural settings.

“I am pleased to have Heather recognized for her tireless work and continued innovation in supporting evidence-based practice for veterinarians through education, tools, and open access initiatives,” said Stephanie Fulton, Associate Dean and Director of the Texas A&M University Medical Sciences Library. “She truly represents the spirit of the Michael E. DeBakey Library Services Outreach Award with her career-long outreach work in supporting practicing veterinarians.”

Moberly is currently the Coordinator of Veterinary Information and Research Services at the Texas A&M University’s Medical Sciences Library and has worked with practicing veterinarians to improve their access to and use of information since 2001, starting at Oklahoma State University.

“I have no doubt that Heather’s [work] has led to improved veterinary medical care and evidence-based practice to food-producing animals,” said Virginia Fajt, Clinical Professor at Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.

Recognition for Moberly, and other 2020 FNLM award winners, is planned for the FNLM Annual Awards Dinner in September 2021.
