Director of Collection Development & Acquisitions Services

General Description:

Reporting to the Dean through the Associate Dean for Information Resources, the Director of Collection Development & Acquisitions Services leads the Collection Development & Acquisitions Services unit. Fosters effective relationships with peers and stakeholders throughout the Libraries and university, helps facilitate internal and external communications and resolves conflicts. Cultivates an environment that promotes cooperation, creativity, innovation, continuous improvement, and accountability for results. Encourages and supports effective problem solving and decision making.

Works closely with the Libraries’ budget office to ensure efficient and appropriate ordering, payments, contract management, and fund and budget accounting. Manages relationships, negotiations and contracts with vendors for approval plans, DDA, and other one-time purchases. Maintains sound financial accounting practices and detailed financial analysis and reporting. Ensures department adheres to all guidelines in procurement process and use of funds according to accounting and auditing requirements as specified by the University. Manages the acquisitions module of the Voyager integrated library system and oversees one time acquisitions and copy cataloging operations. Monitors, analyzes, and recommends collection budget allocations. Exercises leadership in the examination and creation of policies that govern library collections.

General Duties:
  • Models and promotes the Libraries’ Shared values
  • In cooperation with the other Information Resources directors, supports the strategic direction for the division, the Libraries, and the University
  • Promotes staff development at all levels, including technical, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Provides direct leadership and administrative oversight for 3 librarians and 13 support staff
  • Works collaboratively with all units in the Libraries
  • Manages the $16+ million materials budget for the TAMU Libraries
  • Oversees the workflow for collection development and the acquisition and copy cataloging of one-time purchases
  • Administers the bidding process for the major approval plan bid ($1 million+ annually)
  • Serves as collections representative for Greater Western Library Alliance and other consortia as assigned
  • Serves on Electronic Resources Licensing Team and Voyager Steering Group
  • Engages in research, publication, and professional service as required of tenure-track/tenured faculty 
  • Undertakes assignments from the Associate Director for Information Resources and the Dean as requested
