System Libraries Resource Development Director

Position Announcement

The Texas A&M University Libraries seeks a talented and dynamic professional to join the Libraries as the System Libraries Resource Development Director.  This is a non-tenure clinical track faculty position.  Successful candidates will be expected to have engagement in professional service activities, consistent with the Libraries’ and University’s requirements for promotion.

Reporting to the Dean of the Texas A&M University Libraries through the Associate Dean for Information Resources, the System Libraries Resource Development Director will provide innovative leadership for system-wide shared initiatives, such as shared resources and professional development opportunities for the Texas A&M University System Library Consortium (TAMU System Library Consortium).  In consultation with TAMU System Libraries, Contracts Administration, and the Office of General Counsel, the System Libraries Resource Development Director reviews and negotiates digital resources licenses to ensure compliance with established federal and state guidelines, including copyright and accessibility guidelines. Responsibilities include negotiating with vendors, establishing and maintaining effective vendor relations, and maintaining an Electronic Resource Management System for cooperative agreements. This position also manages the setup and maintenance of access records for existing and new cooperative agreements in the ERM.  The person in this position is a member of the TAMU Libraries' Electronic Resources Licensing Team.  This person also recommends and organizes annual professional development training for the librarians and staff of member libraries.  This person also prepares official reports for the TAMU System Library Consortium.

Required Qualifications:
  • MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA Accredited graduate program or international equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of professional library (post MLS) experience working in areas of electronic acquisitions and/or collection development, e-resource management,
  • Knowledge and work experience with academic online resources and services
  • Knowledge of the concepts and issues related to the electronic resources lifecycle
  • Experience with integrated library systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead negotiations, including licensing, with content providers of electronic resources
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other library units
  • Demonstrated ability, through examples, to successfully lead or accommodate change
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience or familiarity with assessment of library resources
  • Familiarity in working with consortia
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Texas to the different system libraries
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience negotiating licenses on behalf of a library consortium.
  • Experience managing or implementing an Electronic Resources Management System
  • Experience with or understanding of emerging information technologies and applications
  • Knowledge of ADA/Accessibility laws and standards in regard to electronic information resources

Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $54,000 Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA-CREF; paid holidays and vacation; no state or local income tax. Funding is available for professional travel and development activities.
