Schoolboy Lyrics. Lahore: Civil and Military Gazette Press, 1881. Printed by Kipling's parents in
a private edition of 50 copies while Kipling was at School in England. The first page of this copy
contains a scroll and flourishes drawn by Kipling himself.

Kipling's father, John Lockwood Kipling, his mother, Alice Macdonald Kipling, his sister, Alice
"Trix" Kipling, and Kipling himself. The verso of the front endpaper is inscribed by Kipling's
father to the editor of the Spectator, to whom Lockwood had sent the book for review.

Alice Kipling and Alice "Trix" Macdonald Fleming. Hand in Hand: Verses by a Mother and
Daughter. London: Elkin Mathews, 1902. Pasted to the front endsheet is the original contract,
signed and registered, between the publisher and the co-authors, Alice Kipling (Rudyard's
mother) and Alice Fleming (Rudyard's sister). This was Trix's personal copy. She later gave it to
J. H. C. Brooking, founder of the Kipling Society, who gave it to his wife, Dorothy Brooking,
who, in August of 1965, gave it to A. W. Yeats.
