Aggies Can Fight Library Fines with Food Donations

By Marketing and Communications | 01-29-2025

Texas A&M University Libraries visitors can reduce or eliminate their library fines and help their campus community Feb. 1 through March 8 during the 11th Annual Food for Fines drive at four of the five libraries on the main campus.

Those without library fines are also encouraged to donate since food donations are welcome from everyone. All nonperishable food items collected will go to the 12th Can Food Pantry, a Texas A&M student-run pantry on campus that serves members of the university community who need assistance.

Last year, nearly a half-ton was donated to the pantry as the Libraries collected 917 pounds of food items. Since the program began, the Libraries have donated almost 11,000 pounds of food to 12th Can.

"Food for Fines equals Aggies helping Aggies,” said Tonya Carter, the Libraries’ Food for Fines coordinator.

For each donation of 10 ounces or more, $2 will be credited to a student’s fines on their Libraries account, up to a $100 maximum credit. The program does not cover replacement fees for lost or damaged items, and donations have no monetary value.

Each library location participating in the drive will have details about what items will be accepted. Patrons will get a receipt for their donation and receive account credit within 24 hours.

Donations can be made at the Libraries’ “AskUs” desks at the front entrances:

The 12th Can Food Pantry strives to eliminate hunger at Texas A&M, bring awareness to food insecurity in college communities, and show others the power of the Aggie spirit.
