In October 1998, the newly renovated Cushing Memorial Library & Archives, Texas A&M University's first stand-alone library, was rededicated as the new home of Special Collections and University Archives. To commemorate this anniversary, Cushing opened an exhibition in October to celebrate 25 years of collecting and related program development and to recognize the generous donors and university community members who made this tremendous growth possible.
At the core of the exhibition lies a wide range of historical manuscripts, rare books, unique artifacts, significant maps and ephemera that span centuries, continents and cultures, exemplifying the breadth and synergy of Texas A&M University Libraries' holdings. Each of these items tells a story that captivates and informs while supporting programming designed to foster curiosity, exploration, introspection and scholarly engagement.
A debt of gratitude is owed to Cushing's past and present supporters, who are dedicated to its mission to preserve cultural and intellectual heritage in pursuit of knowledge and excellence. With their continued belief in and support of the Libraries' shared vision, Cushing will continue to expand its collections and embrace new initiatives, looking ahead towards the next 25 years.
